Ruth is principal oboe of the Orchestra of English National Opera.
She has also played as guest principal oboe with orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, Cool Music Ltd, English Chamber Orchestra, Halle, London Metropolitan Orchestra, London Mozart Players, London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Music Solutions Ltd, Northern Sinfonia, Philharmonia, Royal Opera House and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ruth studied at Clare College, Cambridge, The Royal Academy of Music and Karlsruhe Hochschule fur Musik, Germany. In 1990 she was runner-up in the wind final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and in 1993 she won first prize in the Isle of Wight International oboe competition. She released a CD of English Oboe Concertos for ASV in 2003 and in 2004 was a soloist on Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night.
